Daytripping to West Croydon
 
Early morning on the first Saturday in December saw the Grand Junior Deacon making his way to Lancaster Castle Railway Station to catch the 05.38 to London Euston, rendezvousing at 06.10 with the Dept.DGP and the District Secretary who boarded the train at Wigan Northwestern, settling back as the only occupants of Coach "E" to enjoy a Bacon Barmcake, when at Warrington they were joined by several passengers who when spotting by these men in black Waistcoats and watch chains assumed they were members of Virgin West Coast staff and began to ask about ticketing upgrades.

Settling back without any further mishap the three members from West Lancashire arrived into Euston Station. A trip on the Tube to London Victoria, then a 30minute train journey saw them arrive safely at West Croydon, after a short walk arriving at Croydon Masonic Hall.

The first order of the day was an enjoyable Bacon Barmcake; however, the Grand Junior Deacon that well-known man about Garstang and purveyor of "Whole Pig Sausages", William Richmond decided to have a sausage Barmcake to check out the competition.

The reason for the outing was to attend the District Meeting for Surrey. During his address, Ray Hussey, the District Grand Prefect for Surrey thanked the members from West Lancashire for their attendance and valued support.

A total of around 100 members and guests from all around the UK attended the meeting, and 75 Brethren later enjoyed an excellent four course Banquet in the company of friends from both the District of Surrey and other Districts visiting the meeting.

After the meeting the three intrepid travellers arrived back at Euston to discover the 17.30 train had been cancelled, unfazed by the transport difficulties arrangements were soon made allowing them to embarking on the 16.20 to Manchester Piccadilly, quite an eventful day of travel, the journey home was helped by hospitality courtesy of Richard Branson. The trio arrived home around 8.00pm, although a long day it had been a thoroughly enjoyable occasion.
